Everything you need to know about measuring, ordering, and installing your Garrison Shades.
Measuring Your Windows
Measure the width and height of your window opening to the nearest 1/8 inch. Always measure in three places β top, middle, and bottom for width; left, center, and right for height β and use the smallest measurement.

Inside mount β the shade sits inside the window frame, giving a clean, built-in look. Requires at least 2 inches of window depth for proper fit. Measure the exact inside width of the frame; we make a small deduction to ensure smooth operation.
Outside mount β the shade mounts on the wall or trim above and outside the window opening. Ideal for windows with shallow depth, or when you want to add visual height and block more light. Measure the width you want covered, typically 3β4 inches wider than the opening on each side.
Yes. Our Measure Guides page has product-specific guides, instructional videos, and a downloadable Excel template to help you record every window. If you're still unsure, email us at hello@garrisonshades.com and we'll walk you through it.
We accept measurements in whole inches and fractions of 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, and 7/8. Enter your measurement as a whole number plus a fraction when ordering β for example, 36 and 3/8 inches.
Because all shades are cut to your exact specifications, we are unable to offer remakes for customer measurement errors. We strongly recommend ordering free fabric samples and confirming measurements twice before placing your order. Our measure guides and support team are here to help you get it right before you order.
Ordering & Payment
Browse our products on the Shop page. Select your product, choose your fabric or color, enter your window dimensions, and add to cart. When ready, proceed to checkout β we accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay via Stripe's secure checkout.
Absolutely. You can add as many shades as you need to your cart, each with different dimensions and fabrics. You can also save your cart as a quote and return to it later from your account page.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
Contact us within 24 hours of placing your order at hello@garrisonshades.com and we will do our best to accommodate changes before production begins. Once your order enters production, changes are no longer possible.
Sales tax is calculated based on your shipping address at the time of checkout. You can estimate your tax in the cart by entering your ZIP code before proceeding to payment. Tax is applied in accordance with applicable state and local laws.
Yes. You can save your cart as a named quote from the cart page (requires a free account). For large commercial projects or trade pricing, contact us at hello@garrisonshades.com with your project details.
Production & Shipping
Most orders are produced and shipped within 5β10 business days from the date of payment. Complex or large-volume orders may take slightly longer. You will receive a shipping notification with tracking information once your order leaves our facility.
Yes β free standard shipping on all orders over $250. Orders under $250 are subject to a flat shipping fee calculated at checkout based on your delivery location. We ship to all 50 US states and Canada.
Yes, we ship to Canada. Canadian orders may be subject to import duties and taxes collected by the carrier at delivery. These are not included in your order total and are the responsibility of the customer.
Once your order ships, you'll receive an email with a tracking number. You can also view your order history and status from your account page. If you placed an order without an account, contact us with your order reference number.
We're sorry to hear that. Please email hello@garrisonshades.com within 5 days of delivery with your order number and photos of the damage. We will arrange a replacement at no charge for verified shipping damage.
Returns & Warranty
Because every shade is custom-made to your exact dimensions and specifications, we are unable to accept returns for custom orders. This is standard practice for made-to-order window coverings. We strongly encourage ordering free fabric samples and double-checking your measurements before placing your order.
If your order arrived damaged or was manufactured incorrectly, we will make it right β contact us at hello@garrisonshades.com.
Our shades are warranted against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for 2 years from the date of purchase. This covers issues such as fabric seaming, component failure, and motorization malfunctions under normal residential use. Normal wear and tear, sunlight fading, and customer damage are not covered.
We produce shades to the measurements you provide. If the shade does not fit due to a measurement error on your part, we are unable to offer a free replacement. If we produced the shade at an incorrect size from the measurements you provided, contact us immediately and we will remake the shade.
To avoid this, always use our Measure Guides and, if in doubt, order free fabric samples and consult with us before ordering.
Products & Materials
We currently offer roller shades, blinds, and motorized shades β all made to your exact dimensions. Each product comes in multiple fabric options with varying levels of light control, from sheer to blackout.
We offer three levels of light control:
Light Filter β diffuses sunlight while maintaining daytime privacy. Ideal for living rooms and kitchens.
Room Darkening β blocks most light, with slight gaps at the edges. Good for bedrooms.
Blackout β blocks virtually all light when properly fitted. Best for media rooms, nurseries, and night-shift sleepers.
Order free fabric samples to see and feel each option before committing.
Our motorized shades use a quiet, rechargeable motor that connects to your home's WiFi or a remote control. They can be operated via a wall switch, smartphone app, or voice assistant (Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit compatible depending on the model). A full charge lasts approximately 6β12 months under normal use.
Yes. All of our shades are cordless or motorized, eliminating hanging cord hazards. Our fabrics are tested to meet or exceed applicable safety standards. We recommend our motorized shades for homes with children and pets for maximum safety and convenience.
Most shades can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking or machine washing. For deeper cleaning, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Specific care instructions vary by fabric β refer to the care card included with your order or contact us for guidance.
Free Fabric Samples
Yes β completely free, including shipping. We offer free samples because custom shades are a significant purchase and we want you to see and feel the material before committing. You can request up to 6 samples per order.

Sample orders typically ship within 1β2 business days and arrive within 5β7 business days via standard shipping. If you need samples urgently, contact us and we'll do our best to expedite.
You can order up to 6 fabric samples at a time, per address, per order. If you need to see additional fabrics, you're welcome to place a second sample order.
Installation
Yes. Most of our shades can be installed in under 20 minutes with a tape measure, pencil, and drill. Each order ships with a detailed installation guide. Video installation guides are also available on the product's Measure Guide page for step-by-step instructions.
For most installations you'll need: a tape measure, pencil, level, power drill or screwdriver, and the mounting hardware included with your order. Some inside-mount installations may require only a screwdriver. No special tools or professional help is required.

My Account & Orders
No. You can check out as a guest. However, creating a free account lets you save quotes, view your order history, save shipping addresses, and track your orders in one place. You can sign up with your email or continue with Google.
On the Account page, click Continue with Google. You'll be taken to Google's secure sign-in page. After granting permission, you'll be brought back to your Garrison Shades account automatically. No separate password is needed.
Saved quotes let you name and store your cart configuration for later. This is useful for large multi-room projects or when you want to get measurements confirmed before placing your order. Access your saved quotes from your account's My Quotes tab.
On the Sign In page, click Forgot your password? and enter your email address. We'll send you a password reset link. The link expires after 24 hours. If you signed up with Google, you don't need a password β just click Continue with Google.
